My Working Style
Therapy with me is collaborative. Together we discover what your needs are and how you can best meet them.
So, what does that look like exactly?
I like to start by building rapport and establishing trust. I work to gain an understanding of all that comes together to form a client’s life. From there I help clients build confidence in their ability to cope with every day stressors and increase the tools in their toolbox. Everyone has different needs but a few common tools are:
Finding out what triggers you: Is it your boss piling on last minute work or your latest text to a friend going unanswered? Maybe it’s that call from your parent
Finding out what calms you: Is it deep breathing or a fidget object? Maybe it’s a playlist we make together. We get creative
Training your mind: learning what thought traps you fall into and how to pull yourself out
This often looks like traditional talk therapy, but I combine it with facets of cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and psycho-education depending on the unique needs of each client. I believe there is a lot of merit in making connections between past experiences and current behaviors—to connect the dots—using insight and reflection.
I also believe in creativity. In the past, clients and I have read the same books or watched the same shows as a jumping off point to discuss what sometimes feels too personal to touch right away. I’ve used music, art, and storytelling.
If you’re going through a difficult time, transitioning to a new phase of life or trying to adjust to the chaos of the larger world reach out. I look forward to hearing from you.
